Sebring is happening in just a matter of hours, and one of our favorite Porsche hot-shoes, Patrick Long, will be hopping behind the wheel of this day-glo green and chrome 911 for a chance at GTD class victory. With a little luck, and a lot of great driving, the team could come out at the front of the class after 12 hours of non-stop, heart-pounding racing action. We know a lot about the driver, but wouldn’t you like to know more about the car? This car debuted just a couple of months ago, and scored a pretty convincing podium at the Daytona 24 hour race, but we still don’t know much about what sets the new 911 GT3R apart from the GT America that it replaces.
The new car is configured to current FIA GT3 specifications, as are the rest of the cars in the GTD category. This is an international specification that is currently in use across a myriad of different series. It’s an all new car with all new features to improve safety and speed. A bit more power, a lot more aerodynamic efficiency, and a whole lot of curvy bodywork make this new Porsche racer almost as fast as it is beautiful. Does it have what it takes to slice through the field to take the win? We’ll just have to wait until Saturday night to find out. Until then, here’s Pat, in a video for Racer Magazine, to give you all the details.
