A performance-tuned 993 did its best ‘Katniss Everdeen’ impression today when it literally went up in flames. The Porsche was being moved around the basement of the Javitts Center in preparation for the “Dub Garage” show taking place this weekend when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses have stated that they heard a loud *bang* and a flame shot up the right hand side of the Porsche.
No cause has been determined for the incident yet, but obviously there was an excess of fuel somewhere it didn’t belong. It seems likely the Porsche was running rich and backfired, catching the bumper itself on fire. It would seem that no lasting damage has been done to the 993, aside from perhaps the paint. Luckily someone acted quickly and put the fire out in short order, as you can see from the video below. We don’t currently know much about the car, or who built it, but the rear decklid emblem does say “Turbo” and this is obviously a narrow-body 993, so perhaps someone built a turbocharged engine to slot into the engine compartment. Often for shows like this the builds are still being carried out up until the last minute, so perhaps an engine without proper tuning and a still-curing paint job are to blame.

In any case, we hope this turbocharged and RWB-esque winged narrow body gets back on track and tearing up the roads soon.
